Program design and operation:  CCSSS operates on the campus of Changchun Shiyi High School. The student population of the parent school is about 9200. CCSSS, a British Columbia certified school, opened in September, 2010. The 2016-17 enrolment is approximately 105 students in grades 10 to 12.

Teaching assignment: Teachers will be assigned to their areas of training, expertise and interest as per the needs of the school.

Hours of instruction:  Typically, at CCSSS, classes begin at 7:15 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m. with a mid-morning “exercise break” of 1/2 hour and a mid-day break of 2 hours or more. Classes may be semestered (80 minute blocks) or linear (40 minute blocks). Teachers will provide instruction for up to seven 40-minute blocks per day.

CCSSS and the Surrounding Area: Changchun Shiyi High School was established in 1945. It was a girls’ school at the early stage of establishment and became among the first of several outstanding key high/middle schools in Jilin province.  The School is conveniently located within the city, and transportation by bus and taxi to other parts of the city is readily accessible. The area is well populated and all necessary amenities for daily life are nearby.

Several nearby cities of interest are accessible from Changchun by fast train; Harbin (Winter Ice Festival) and Dalian (coast city) being 2 of them. The Changbai Mountain Range is famous in China as an area of wilderness and beauty on the border between China and North Korea. A part of the mountain range has been set aside as the Changbaishan Nature Reserve. Established in 1960, it was involved in the UNESCO’s “Man and Biosphere” program in 1980 and becomes part of the world’s biosphere reserves. BC teachers are housed in apartments within walking distance or a short bus ride from the school. Supermarkets, banks, restaurants and shops are all nearby. Bus and taxi transportation to other parts of the city are readily accessible.

Canada Changchun Shiyi Secondary School: CCSSS is housed on the 5th floor of the campus administrative building. Each classroom is equipped with an instructional computer, projector, and internet access. The school has a 30-station computer lab, a small BC library, and various offices for teachers and support staff. Teachers are provided with office workspace, laptop computers, and access to printers and a photocopier. CCSSS also has access to various science labs and sports facilities.

CCSSS is fully supplied with BC textbooks and teacher resources for all subjects taught. Teachers are encouraged to also make use of resources available on the Internet, and to bring any favourite teaching resources with them.
